About us
Our History

The Henry Smith Foundation has been supporting people and communities in the UK for almost 400 years.
A successful businessman and moneylender, Henry Smith built his wealth through trade and property. When he died in 1628, he left a large sum of money behind to support people in need.
Today, our focus is on reducing social and economic disadvantage, backing work that is thoughtful, collaborative and rooted in lived experience.
We believe in forming strong, long-term relationships, listening to those with experience and providing flexible support. Our mission is to create the conditions where people and communities not only overcome adversity but have the power and tools they need to thrive.
Our People
Our work is shaped by a committed team of staff, trustees and volunteers who bring experience from across the charity, community, public and commercial sectors.
